Medicare For All has been one of the biggest topics of question with this group of Democratic presidential candidates. Bernie supports the measure and there are some talking points against it.
Some of these talking points are
- Long waiting lines
- It is too expensive
- People should have to pay for their own healthcare
Many of these talking points are put out by individuals who work for some type of health insurance company. These companies would become obsolete in a Medicare For All System.
Medicare For All is the type of healthcare system that exists in all developed countries with the exception of the United States. Support has been growing for this type of system and the owners of Insurance companies are starting to get nervous.
Here are a few rebuttal points against the points mentioned.
Individuals in European countries note that there are sometimes lines for non-life saving procedures. For life-saving procedures, individuals often get in quickly. See the below video for comments from Europeans.
The idea that Medicare for all is too expensive does not account for the fact that millions of Americans already pay extremely high premiums and copays. Employers also pay large amounts of money insuring their employees. Employees would be able to negotiate for higher salaries as they pointed out to their bosses that the company is no longer paying for health insurance. Many experts have indicated that America would pay less. https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/practices/new-study-says-medicare-for-all-will-save-u-s-money-lower-healthcare-costs
Our health can at times be determined by factors outside of our control. If we were ignorant of our own health, we would all want a system in which we could not go bankrupt from our health. There are individuals literally begging for the lives of themselves, their friends of their family through go fund me accounts. This is not a thing in Europe.
